Should You Take Your Pet on a Road Trip?

Any road trip can be more exciting when you take your pets. There are a few tips to follow to make sure your special family member is safe and secure throughout the trip. With a bit of planning, you can be ready for a road trip of any distance.

If traveling with a pet fish, then you'll need to ensure that you have a place to situate the bowl or tank away from the sun. Any movement can cause water to splash out, so make sure to position your fish's habitat in a secure area.

Make your pet as comfortable as possible. If traveling with a dog, use a harness that keeps them on the seat or place them into a well-ventilated crate or carrier. Bring a toy or blanket, too, so they get a sense of home. Avoid feeding them in the car as it can cause an upset stomach.

Create a kit that you can bring in the car. This includes vaccination records, food and water bowls, as well as toys. Be sure your dog is wearing a collar with all of the necessary contact information. It’s a good idea to bring your own water, too, so you don’t have to rely on public water bowls at rest stops.
