With the summer travel months upon us, odds are you may be considering a family road trip. There is nothing more exciting than hitting the open road to see the sights. Along with the latest travel guides, the trendiest swimsuits, and enough snacks to feed an army, make sure that you pack one more thing into your car to make sure that you and your family are safe in case of a breakdown: a roadside emergency kit.

A good roadside emergency kit should include things like a first aid kit, a set of jumper cables, a gas can, and a can of tire inflator. You should also make sure that you pack a basic automotive tool kit and an auto repair manual as well as a copy of essential documents such as your insurance card, roadside assistance card, IDs for all family members and a prepaid debit card with a little extra money on it for gas or other needs related to your breakdown. You should also make sure that you have a couple of umbrellas and a flashlight or two with extra batteries. Having a roadside emergency kit is a smart way to make sure your road trip is as safe as it is fun.
